The ruby red waters of the mighty Roanoke River create the western border of Bertie County. On one side of the river are high bluffs with beautiful farmland while on the others side are vast low grounds with hardwood forests teeming with wildlife. The waters are so strong, turbulent, and dangerous that Native Americans called it the Moratoc, or "River of Death".
The farmland created by its waters is some of the best peanut soil in the world.
Back when Papa Jack began cooking peanuts in his popcorn popper, he didn't realize that his recipes would become known worldwide. In acknowledgement of his cooking skills, we are introducing his recipe for his original redskin peanuts. It's a different flavor and texture from our other flavors, but we know you will enjoy the pure taste of these local favorites!

These are the best redskins we have ever eaten and now are the only ones we will buy. We like them much better than the smaller "Spanish" peanuts, which don't seem to be as favorable. Sometimes a good number of the skins have been shaken off by the time the nuts reach the Pacific Northwest, but the basic peanuts themselves are so delicious and fresh tasting that it doesn't matter. (We do, however, make an effort to remove some of the skins while placing them in a bowl for company. Small price to pay for the best nuts.).

Wow! These are amazing. This may sound weird to some but... My Mother loved redskins on vanilla ice cream. A taste treat that I have continued but I add just a wee bit of chocolate sauce. This combo may be a new food group :). Well anyway my wife also likes this combo. Just wish Mom was around to try these redskins on her vanilla ice cream. They are the best.

Roanoke River Redskins are what I expected, They are just the correct amount of salt, the redskins are loose on some of the nuts, or come off easily, and the nuts are cooked/fried just right. These peanuts are very good for a quick snack and a little protein.

I have tried the Peanut Shop of Williamsburg and Feridies redskin peanuts and they are good, but Bertie County redskin peanuts are the best. They are more fresh and tastier in my opinion. Even though they are pricier than the other two places, I will not shop anywhere else for redskin peanuts. I also like the fact that they are in a plastic screw top container so that they reseal better for freshness (rather than a can with a pop-on cap) and the container is reusable for other things.
