Bertie County is home to three different river systems: the Roanoke, Chowan, and Cashie Rivers. The Roanoke and Chowan serve as the western, southern and eastern boundaries of the county, while the Cashie River bisects the county from northwest to southeast. In fact the Cashie River runs for over 55 miles at depths up to 80 feet, all in Bertie County! Early settlers dealt with all this water by building canals, bridges, and ferries. Today only one ferry remains in the county, and it is one of the few one car, cable driven ferries still found in North Carolina. This beautiful location on the Cashie is known as Sans Souci, or "without worry". And, folks take that name seriously as they use the Sans Souci area for water skiing , swimming, fishing, grilling, and dancing. In fact, from early spring to late summer the waters of the Cashie at Sans Souci are often covered by a thin layer of smoke from the campfires and grills. So sit back and enjoy these smoky hot peanuts, and think of lazy days on a slow moving river right here in Bertie County!

Just reading a flavors "title" or description sometimes, or a lot of times, doesn't really tell you exactly WHAT you're going to be tasting when you buy something online having never sampled it before, but I must say this one definitely surprised me in a GOOD way! It's got a light to medium black pepper "bite" and a hint of smoke. It's quite good! I could definitely see going for this more often and will probably buy more in the future. Fantastic!

Just finished my first jar of these and they're great! I wasn't impressed at first, but then I realized a lot of the seasoning had settled to the bottom of the jar during shipping. Gently rolled the peanuts around a few times and flavor increased tenfold! High quality peanuts with great taste. The seasoning is a little spicy with a neat smoky flavor. If the Weeping Mary's are too spicy for you, give these a try!!

After sampling the Bertie products in a shop in a mall in Raleigh, I have either bought them on line or when in Goldsboro area, buying them in shops. My only mistake is not buying enough when they are on sale to me. If you think you would like them, don't buy one jar, buy at least two. I have learned to buy the Blister Fried by the case of 30 oz jars. I now find I need to that with Sea Salt and Pepper and the San Souci!

A variety of Bertie County peanuts were provided as table snacks for a long, three day meeting. The smoky Sans Souci peanuts were the favorite among about half the crowd. They commented that the slightly smoky/ spicy/savory combination was addictive. All of the Sans Souci nuts were gone by the end of the meeting.

This is the first Bertie product I have been disappointed with. When the word "Smoky" leads the title, you expect a nice, rich, smoky taste. These fail to deliver that. The hint of smoked food is rather underwhelming at best.

I have ordered the sans souci nuts many times in the past, and this last shipment did not seem to have the same seasonings as the previous ones I love. Something seemed to be missing. They tasted more like the sea salt and black pepper. I wonder if the recipe changed? These are my favorite nuts, but this last shipment was a bit disappointing.Sorry.

The Sans Souci nuts were excellent. Bought a 30 oz and a 10 oz ( for back-up) to have for the family gathering over the holidays.
